Another lighting installation completed by Chilvers Electrical, this time a three-pendant cluster fitted from a single ceiling point in a Milton Keynes home.

Three-pendant cluster light fitted from a single ceiling rose in a Milton Keynes home

Cluster pendants look simple once they are up, but they are less forgiving than a standard pendant. All three drops hang from one ceiling rose, so the fixing has to carry the combined weight of the fitting, the flex and the lamps, and it has to do it from whatever is actually above the plasterboard. Where there is no joist in the right place, a proper fixing needs to go in rather than relying on plasterboard alone. Get that wrong and the first thing you notice is a fitting that has started to pull away from the ceiling.

Setting the drops

The other part people underestimate is the drop lengths. Staggered pendants only look right if the heights are set deliberately, and once the flex is cut you cannot put it back. We set the drops with the customer before anything is shortened, checking the look from the places the light is actually seen from rather than from directly underneath.

Testing and handover

The circuit was isolated before any work started, the existing connections were checked, and the new fitting was connected, tested and returned to service. Testing matters as much on a light fitting as on anything else — a loose connection at a ceiling rose is a genuine fire risk, not a cosmetic problem.

We install and replace lighting of all kinds across Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell and the surrounding areas: pendants and cluster fittings, downlights, under-cabinet lighting, outdoor and security lighting, and full lighting circuits as part of a rewire. If a fitting has arrived and you would rather it went up properly than spent a month in its box, that is exactly the sort of job we are happy to take on.
