We recently installed a Eufy floodlight camera at a property in Milton Keynes — twin adjustable LED floodlights either side of a pan-and-tilt camera, fitted to the exterior wall to cover the approach to the house.

Floodlight and camera in one
Fitting the two together solves a problem that either one alone leaves open. A floodlight on its own deters, but records nothing — you get a light coming on and no idea what triggered it. A camera on its own records, but in darkness produces grainy infrared footage that shows something happened without showing who. Together, the light triggers, the camera turns to follow, and the footage is in colour and actually identifiable.
The pan-and-tilt head is the part worth having. A fixed camera covers one angle; this one tracks movement across the area rather than watching a single spot and losing whatever moves out of frame.
Getting the positioning right
Mounting height and angle decide whether a system like this is useful or a nuisance. Too low and it is reachable and easily blinded. Aimed badly and it floods a neighbour’s bedroom window every time a cat crosses the garden — the fastest way to fall out with the people next door. The lights were set to cover the approach and entry points while keeping the spill off neighbouring properties.
The camera also needs to see faces at the distance that matters, which usually means covering the gate, path or driveway rather than pointing at the middle of a lawn.
A permanent, wired installation
This was wired into a permanent supply, so there are no batteries to take down and charge, and the light has the power to genuinely illuminate an area rather than glow. All connections were made in weatherproof enclosures suitable for outdoor use, and the installation was tested before handover.
