Electrical Load & Dedicated Cooker Circuit

Electric cookers and ovens can have a relatively high electrical demand, so the correct circuit design and protective device are essential. Depending on the appliance rating, installation method and cable run, a cooker may require a dedicated circuit using an appropriately sized cable, such as 6mm² or 10mm².

The circuit should be designed to safely accommodate the appliance load and installed in accordance with BS 7671 and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Cooker Control Switch

The correct protective device and cable size should be determined from the characteristics of the installation rather than simply selecting a standard size.
